Students Shine in ‘Ready, Steady, Bake Off’ Competition
Students from Accrington and Rossendale College’s Hospitality & Catering Department were given the chance to show off their culinary skills, competing in teams of four in an internal competition.
Students studying one of the Professional Cookery or Patisserie courses were invited to take part in the first ‘Ready, Steady, Bake Off’ competition to show off just how much they had learnt in their time at College, with each team being made up of a mixture of level 2 & 3 students.
The competition, which tasked each team with producing two dishes, was designed to give students the opportunity to feel what it’s like to work as part of a team under pressure and to a specific deadline.
Chef Lecturer Anthony Muldowney said, “The main objective of the ‘Ready, Steady, Bake Off’ competition was to test each and every students culinary skills and teamwork abilities. The students had to plan, prepare and set individual tasks for each other to ensure everything was done to a high level and on time. The quality of the dishes was great and as their tutor I’m extremely proud!”
After completing and adding final presentation touches, the dishes were put on show for the judging panel to access. The winning team consisting of Callum Burrill, Dylan McCormack, Sharon Worthington and Leam Hollows produced two dishes consisting of chicken forestiere and choux pastry swans filled with créme chiboust.
Well done to everyone who participated.
