Seafood Bonaza theme evening proves catch of the day at Roots Restaurant
Level 3 Professional Cookery students from Accrington and Rossendale College’s Hospitality & Catering Department showed off their culinary skills at its latest theme evening, cooking up a seafood bonanza for happy diners.
The event, which took place at the College’s multi-million pound Roots Restaurant, is just one of a range of theme evenings that run throughout the academic year, giving students the opportunity to work in a professional kitchen/restaurant.
The sell out evening featured an array of fish and shellfish favourites that were kindly provided by the evenings sponsors, AO Seafood Ltd. who are based in Burnley. Adrian Ogdem, Managing Director at AO Seafood Ltd. who also provided a fish master class to the College’s Catering Department commented, “It’s been a great pleasure being able to work with these young and enthusiastic chefs. Being able to sponsor the event and also deliver masterclasses on fish has been a great experience for both the College and us.”
Level 3 Professional Cookery student Kelsey Rutherford added, “Being able to work in a fully functioning restaurant is a great experience, especially when it’s fully booked! Being able to put everything you’ve learned in class to the test under pressure is something I particularly enjoy and I feel as if I am getting the best experience and skills to help me succeed in the Catering industry.”
Chef Lecturer Anthony Muldowney also added, “Getting to work as part of a team in a fully functioning kitchen gives our students a great platform to go on and progress with the Hospitality & Catering industry. Also having industry experts such as AO Seafood Ltd. coming in to College to give in depth master classes provides our students with a broad range of skills and knowledge.
The evening was a complete success and both the kitchen and front of house staff should be extremely proud of the great job they did.”
